it is very difficult to keep calm in lockdown. Initially 2-3 weeks was fun, paid leave, post numerous videos of cooking stuff, play games with kids etc. then suddenly the thrill in cooking started to diminish, no maids so clean your own dishes and wash your own clothes. the sweet talks earlier started increasing in volume. you are trying to adjust to work from home culture while your kids are trying to study at home and your spouse is also working from home. the internet collapses and everyone is fighting to get access to internet. no new tv shows, all saas bahu serials (family melodrama) stopped and then everyone starts posting old songs and videos or movies. you start feeling nostalgic but you cannot do anything beyond that.
so coming to the main topic - how to keep your calm in lockdown. try the following and if this does not work i have mentioned a nuclear solution to this problem and can guarantee that it will help you to relax in any worst situation in lockdown.
1) try doing some yoga (remember to always breath in when stretching and breath out while getting normal). if any yoga teacher does not teach how to breath during asanas then just kick their ass goodbye.
2) if yoga is not your cup of tea or you find it difficult to even touch your knee then easiest is to try meditation - just sit in a chair with your legs crossed and resting on the floor. close your eyes and simply breath in and breath out. don't worry about any thoughts initially. you can think whatever you want but simply just keep your eyes closed and breath normally. slowly try to focus on your breathing. after few days with your eyes closed imagine that there is a big hole in between your eyebrows and you should try to see through that hole with your eyes closed. keep your breath as normal. miraculously you would feel calm and quite. you can try this step even from day 1 but you would hardly have normal breath for more than 3-4 seconds. just keep trying.
3) pick up a new hobby - painting, drawing, cooking, carpentry, woodwork, candle making anything.
4) listen to some music (not nostalgic) but try to listen to a calm waterfall music or waves sound.
5) everyday try to sit in sun for sometime and if you can mediate in sun go for it.
6) how a nice shower bath
7) eat whatever you feel like eating without thinking about weight gain - i will give you a solution to not gain weight and eat. every night before you go to bed, take a glass of water (in a transparent glass or copper glass). tell the water in the glass loudly that you ate too much fatty or junk food today and request the water to digest the food immediately and not let the junk food accumulate in your stomach as fat. drink the water with immense faith. do this ritual every day (as many times as you want or even whenever you drink water). remember water retains memory and this ritual will help you to keep your weight same or even reduce your weight but it will never increase your weight. so you will always maintain.
8) help your neighbours or more vulnerable people, remember your brain will make you calm if you help someone - it could be any help. even going over to their house and sitting with them chatting or checking if they need anything will still help to calm you down
9) i do not recommend this but once in a while just let your kids play on phone for the whole day. tell them that this is a one off thing and you also watch your favourite movies, shows or anything with your kids
10) tell your kids to teach you the games they play and try your hand at them. they will call you noobe and laugh at you and make fun of you but in that way you will start becoming more friendly and close to your kids who will later confide in you everything.
Lastly if everything above fails use the nuclear weapon that i am going to tell you. this is guaranteed to calm down your mind.
nuclear weapon solution - go to your toilet. lock up your self in the toilet. bend down a bit and SHOUT LOUDLY (from the bottom of your navel or balls) - Corona is a ugly mot***f@#*&#, Ch*** is S#@*, give all the bad word you know. if you are frustrated with your inlaws or your spouse (check that they are not at home or cannot hear you) or your boss or the government just SHOUT and abuse. shout the dirtiest abusive word you know for more than 5 minutes or till you get tired and your vocal cord hurts. come out of the toilet and drink a full glass of lukewarm (or cold as per your preference) water and sit. suddenly you will find yourself relaxed. that night you will surely sleep like a baby.
